Monthly presentation: Dr. John Whitmore, Associate Professor of Geology at Cedarville University presenting, “Research update on the Coconino Sandstone of the Grand Canyon” at Groesbeck Public Library.
Many believe that the Coconino Sandstone of northern and central Arizona represents the remnants of a large desert that once covered the area. They believe the large cross beds in the sandstone represent ancient desert sand dunes. However, evidence is mounting that the Sandstone was deposited underwater, not in a desert. Dr. Whitmore will share new discoveries that he has made in this important rock layer.
Dr. John Whitmore is Professor of Geology at Cedarville University where he has been teaching since 1991. He has been working on the Coconino Sandstone for about 10 years.

Comments from John about having this event at Caesar’s Creek: "The quality of the fossils will make-up for the rules that are in place there. There is also a scenic hike that we can go on, leaving from the spillway area."
